Message fuel cut is safer.
the excess fuel burned doesnt generate any heat or "power".
you can burn lean so long as you arent generating power.

ignition cut is not safer.
ignition cut sends a bunch of raw fuel into your exahust/turbos potentially causing combustion in the exhaust/turbos. any raw fuel that gets past there will only damage your o2 sensors.

ideally, you'd want both.
